Orff Schulwerk is a unique approach to music education based on the teachings of Carl Orff.  This child-centered approach combines speech, movement, instruments, and song in a creative, playful atmosphere where students experience the elements of music in an active way. 

LEVEL ONE... is for anyone with the ability to read music.  This course is designed to develop understanding of the teaching and learning process using the Orff Schulwerk approach to music and movement. The daily schedule includes focus on rhythm, melody, Orff instruments, movement, recorder playing, improvisation, musicianship, Orff theory, orchestration, and pedagogy/special topics sessions.  The daily program will include three hours of pedagogy, one hour of soprano recorder, 75 minutes of basic movement, and a special topic.  Instruction will cover Orff techniques, rhythmic and melodic exploration, improvisation, the study of pentatonic scales, the ostinato, simple bordun accompaniments, and elemental forms.
